OCI (Overseas Citizen of India)
As US Citizen of Indian origin, you are eligible to obtain OCI Card, a multiple entry, lifelong visa for India. While the Constitution of India does not allow dual citizenship, the OCI Card allows lifelong work and residence to former Indian citizens whose parents or a grandparents held Indian citizenship. OCI Card holders do not have the same rights as Indian citizens; they cannot vote or hold a political office.
As of mid-January 2015, the PIO Card for People of Indian Origin has been merged with OCI Card. Thus the PIO Card is no longer being offered by the Government of India; the current PIO Card holders are automatically considered OCI Card holders and are not required to obtain an OCI Card unless they choose to do so.
